A few years ago, I began calling dogs 'guugies' [goo-ghee]. It's hard to remember exactly how it came about. I do know the inspiration for the term was a mix of how I go "agugugu" whenever I see something very cute, and the fact that baby-speak for eggs in my house was "gugug egg".
The term guugie is my own word for a dog. I call my own dog a guugie all the time. It's kinda taken on legs of it's own and expanded into a whole lexicon of other affectionate terms for dogs of certain breeds, and even non-canine animals!
